Open Letter to Google, Authors Guild, and AAP

The Open Book Alliance, along with dozens of academic, library, publishing, organized labor, and consumer advocacy organizations, today sent an open letter to Google and its Book Settlement partners. The letter called on them to create an open and transparent process to negotiate a settlement to the Google Book Search case.

An excerpt from the letter is below:

“The enormity of this issue demands that it be deliberated publicly and collaboratively, rather than privately and secretly. Discussion and debate about the right way to digitize the worldʼs written works must proceed through a robust process that includes input from all stakeholders, including authors, libraries, independent publishers, consumer advocates, state Attorneys General, the Justice Department, and Congress. No more closed doors – letʼs do it right.”
